First bonus point win of the season

In excellent conditions at Gibson Park, Grosvenor continued their recent good form with a 4 try, bonus point win against Carrick.

The early exchanges were dominated by handling errors from both sides, with the visitors making some half breaks, but unable to complete their good play. The first scrum as often , told a tale of what was to come as the home pack destroyed the Carrick pack. With one noticeable exception, this trend was to continue throughout the game and with a profitable lineout, Grosvenor were to dominate the set pieces. Although this set piece dominance was giving the home side good territorial advantage, the scoreline at half time flattered the visitors, with them being only 12-3 down. Following a flowing move, fly half Ben Johnston scored out wide with the difficult conversion missed.

More great continuity resulted in Taylor Pollock scoring a great team try with Johnston converting. Carrick were struggling for possession and it was no surprise to see Grosvenor on the attack again, but the ball was held up over the Carrick goal line for a drop out. A period of Carrick pressure resulted in a straight forward penalty which was converted to leave the half time score 12-3 to the home side.

The second half saw an invigorated Carrick team and an inside pass saw them score an unconverted try to narrow the score to 12-8. A great break from Grosvenor centre Cameron Knell should have resulted in a try but the chance was spurned. From a scrum penalty, Carrick found a good touch and the Grosvenor defence was found wanting as a catch and pass back to the hooker saw Carrick suddenly in the lead 13-12.

The home side got back to positive action and fly half Johnston restored the Grosvenor lead with a well taken try, 17-13. The home side maintained the pressure and an ecstatic Cameron Knell smashed over beside the posts for a bonus point try which was converted by Johnston.

This left the score at 24-13 to Grosvenor for a well deserved bonus point win.
